Educational Support for Students

The first step to ensure inclusion is happening in classrooms is ensuring students are in the appropriate educational program that best meets their current strengths and needs, and provides necessary support.

There are three types of educational programming in the NWT to support all students:

  1. Regular educational programming (with or without accommodations)
    • This program is based on the learning outcomes that are set out in the NWT curricula for the specific grade level the student is enrolled. There may be accommodations specific to the student’s strengths and needs.
  2. Modified educational programming
    • The learning outcomes are laid out in the NWT curricula at a grade level two or more years above or below the student’s grade level.
  3. Individualized educational programming
    • This program is specific to each student. Annual and short-term goals are driven by the student’s strengths and needs.
