Action Plan

NWT Education Renewal is reimagining the whole school experience, from Junior Kindergarten to high school. The world has changed so much over the last number of decades, it just makes sense that those changes would affect how and what we teach in schools.

Actions coming out of Education Renewal are guided by working groups. These working groups are made up of people from all regions of the NWT. They include educators, school board members, ECE employees, representatives from other GNWT departments, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and other stakeholders. Connecting with the students in our schools is also a focus of this work.

ECE is benefiting from the work of people in the field of education in the North and across Canada. The department is also working with people in related fields and others with many years of experience living in the North.

ECE has created a revised Action Plan for ERI that follows ECE’s approach to improving student outcomes; first starting with actions that focus on quality early learning and child care, through to those actions that support a quality JK-12 education system.

The actions are categorized into the following seven themes:

  • Theme 1: Quality Early Learning and Child Care
  • Theme 2: Workforce Development and Capacity Building
  • Theme 3: Curriculum and Student Assessment
  • Theme 4: Student Supports
  • Theme 5: Training, Developing and Support for School Employees
  • Theme 6: Governance
  • Theme 7: Monitoring and Evaluation
