Accountability Framework

Overview

The Post-Secondary Education Accountability Framework establishes a reporting structure for the post-secondary education system in the NWT.

This reporting aims to promote a shared understanding of how well the accredited post-secondary education institutions in the NWT contribute towards a system where every resident has the opportunity to reach their full potential by attending student-centred, accessible, high-quality, relevant, and accountable post-secondary education.

The accountability framework has two purposes:

  • To report to public on the performance of the post-secondary education system.
  • To collect information to support decision-making throughout the system.

Performance Measures

The Accountability Framework's performance measures, which were guided by feedback from post-secondary education partners, and link to the objectives that support the vision of resident being able to reach their full potential through post-secondary education.

  • Consumer protection for students and employers.
  • Process of recognition that ensures effective governance and quality assurance.
  • Establish a role for the Minister and GNWT to guide and support the development of the post-secondary system.
  • Growth of the NWT post-secondary education system reviewed through the lens of an increased number of transfer agreements, students attending NWT institutions from other jurisdictions, programs developed in the NWT, research projects led by NWT institutions and research projects partnered with NWT institutions, indicating that other jurisdictions have confidence in the education being provided in the NWT.
  • Greater collaboration and integration.

Annual Reporting

Under the Post-Secondary Education Act, accredited post-secondary education institutions must provide an annual report by the date set out in their contribution agreement or by October 31 each year.
