Pathways to Teach Canada

Are you an Internationally Educated Teacher who wants to apply for a teaching position in the Northwest Territories? If that's the case, employers will want to know whether you are eligible to obtain a teaching certificate in the Northwest Territories. In the NWT, this is done through Pathways to Teach Canada.

Pathways to Teach Canada is a single-entry point that simplifies the credential and language competencies assessment process for Internationally Educated Teachers. The assessment process offered by Pathways to Teach Canada is transparent, consistent, and timely.

Here's the streamlined process*:

  1. Visit the new Pathways to Teach Canada website to prepare your application. You will be asked a few questions to determine your eligibility.
  2. Submit your assessment request to have your credentials and/or your language competency assessed.
  3. Once your credentials and/or language competency assessment reports are available, Pathways will send them to the certification regulatory body in the jurisdiction where you want to be certified.

Once you receive a job offer from an education body, you can start the NWT teacher certification process. Learn more about the process here.

*It is the applicant's responsibility to ensure they are legally allowed to work in Canada as per Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) Policy.
