Finding and choosing early learning and child care programs
The Department of Education, Culture and Employment is responsible for licensing early learning and child care programs under the Northwest Territories' Child Day Care Act, Early Learning and Child Care Standards Regulations, and Early Learning and Child Care Funding Regulations. The act and regulations identify the minimum standards for health and safety, quality of care, instruction and supervision of children in licensed child care programs.
In order to receive a child day care facility licence, a program must meet the requirements stated in the act and regulations.
To monitor compliance, licensing inspections must occur at each facility at least once a year.
