Let's Get Crafting

  • Creativebug – unlimited access to 1000+ online art and craft classes taught by expert instructors.  Since the classes never expire, you can start and stop projects at your own pace. Watch them on your computer or mobile device. Sign in using your library card number. The first time you sign in to Creativebug you will need to enter your name and email address.

  • OverDrive offers a large and diverse collection of eBooks and eAudiobooks.

  • Includes current, popular, and bestselling fiction and non-fiction titles.

  • Flipster is now offered to NWT public library cardholders. Access online magazines for both kids and adults, in English and French – including Maclean’s, Rolling Stone, Click, Ricardo, L’Actualité, Les Débrouillards, and more.

Download and Stream Movies and Music and so much more

  • Hoopla gives you access to over 930,000 movies, television series, music albums, audiobooks, eBooks, graphic novels and comics
    • Stream or download - access with your smartphone, tablet or PC
    • No wait lists - you can create an account and stream titles immediately, or download them to enjoy later
    • Library patrons need the following items to create a Hoopla account: email address, a password for the Hoopla account and an active library card

Learn New Languages

  • Get world language tutorials for FREE at Rocket Languages. Sign in using your library card number and learn one of 15 languages including American Sign Language. Learn at your own pace and save your progress between sessions.

Canadian Reference Centre - Magazines, images, books and more

  • The Canadian Reference Centre - online access to a large collection of full-text Canadian and International content – updated daily and includes:

    • 150+ Canadian magazines and journals - including Maclean's, Canadian Geographic, Chatelaine, Elle Canada, Canadian Living, and many more.

    • 400+ international magazines and journals – including Consumer Reports, Time, Sports Illustrated, Newsweek, Entertainment Weekly, and many more.

    • 30+ newspapers – including the Toronto Star and La Presse Canadienne.

    • 66,000+ full text biographies; image collection of over 502,000 photos, maps, and flags.

World Book Online

  • Online access to World Book Encyclopedia and other World Book products (Easy access on desktops, laptops, tablets, and phones)

    • Early World of Learning, focus for early learners (stories, reading games and videos)

    • World Book Kids, focus for elementary school users. Integrated with “L’Encyclopédie Découverte” so users can toggle back and forth between English and French.

    • World Book Student, focus for middle grade users (current events biographies etc.)

    • World Book Mobile, users have access to the “World Book Student” articles, photos, maps, and illustrations in the palm of their hands. Get the World Book app from the Apple App Store or from Google Play.

    • World Book Advanced, focus for high school and older (world newspapers and articles)

    • WorldBook Timelines offers hundreds of customizable, interactive timelines of important events throughout history.

    • L’Encyclopédie Découverte, focus for elementary users. Integrated with “World Book Kids” so users can toggle back and forth between French and English.

    • Activity Corner contains thousands of low-cost, fun yet educational projects for the classroom, after school programs, and library programing. Browse activities using such categories as age range, type of activity, culture, time to complete, cost of materials, or holiday themes.

TumbleBooks – a whole collection of eBooks for all ages

  • TumbleBookLibrary helps to teach kids in grades K-6 the joy of reading by using animation, music, and narration to bring picture books to life. Read along online, or have TumbleBooks read to you.
  • BiblioEnfants is the same as TumbleBookLibrary but in French
  • TumbleMath is a collection of math picture books for grades K-6. These books also include supplementary material like lesson plans and quizzes.
  • TeenBookCloud includes ebooks, graphic novels, videos and audiobooks aimed at grades 7-12. This collection includes fiction and nonfiction titles.

Dictionary of Canadian Biography

  • An online dictionary with biographical entries for individuals who have contributed to the history of Canada. It contains almost 8,500 biographies and is accessible in English or French. Click here to access.

Oxford English Dictionary

  • Access to the largest current English dictionary and thesaurus which focuses on current language and practical usage. It also provides helpful tips on grammar, usage, spelling, and more.  Click here to access the Oxford English Dictionary.

Larousse French Dictionary

  • In addition to the largest French dictionary available online for free, Larousse gives access to an encyclopedia, conjugation tables, multiple bilingual dictionaries, games, recipes, and more. Click here to access the Larousse French Dictionary.

Free materials for NWT residents with print disabilities

All you need is a library card. Contact your community library for information about NNELS and CELA. You can also access introductory videos explaining NNELS and CELA here.

  • NNELSNational Network for Equitable Library Service

    • NNELS provides access to a growing collection of downloadable audio books and other accessible formats for public library patrons who cannot read traditional print because of a visual, physical or cognitive disability.
  • CELA Centre for Equitable Library Access
    • CELA has books, magazines and newspapers in accessible formats, including DAISY audiobooks (CD and downloadable), e-text and braille (print and downloadable). 
    • Titles can be mailed to your home, downloaded from the website, or sent directly to your DAISY player or mobile device.
