High School Equivalency Tests
Overview
The Canadian Adult Education Credential, a new made-in-Canada testing program is for adults in the NWT without a high school diploma, is designed for Canadians and acknowledges the diverse cultures and perspectives within the country and opens new doors for people to get a job, advance their careers or access other educational and training opportunities, including apprenticeships.
Canadian Adult Education Credential consist of five tests:
- Writing
- Reading
- Social Studies
- Science
- Mathematics (Part 1: No Calculator; Part 2: Calculator)
By passing each of the five tests you will receive the Canadian Adult Education Credential and your NWT Secondary Education Equivalency Diploma.
Cost
There is no cost to write the Canadian Adult Education Credential tests.
Eligibility
To write the tests you must:
- Be over the age of 18.
- Be out of high school for at least one year.
- Not have a grade 12 graduation certificate from any institution.
- Live in the NWT for at least six months.
How to register
To register, contact the ECE Service Centre nearest you.
Take the tests
The tests must be written in-person at an official test writing centre on the date and time you selected. Tests are computer-based, with a paper option.
Individuals interested in taking the tests should first confirm their eligibility to write by contacting the ECE Service Centre closest to them.
