Aboriginal Student Achievement Education Plan

The Aboriginal Student Achievement (ASA) Education Plan was tabled in the Legislative Assembly on Friday, August 19th.

The ASA Education Plan was developed in partnership with all Aboriginal, education and government leaders and focuses on four priorities to close the achievement gap between Aboriginal and other students.

The four priorities are:

  • Early Childhood and Child Care;

  • Student and Family Supports;

  • Aboriginal Language and Culture and Resource Development; and

  • Literacy.

The Department of Education, Culture and Employment is now accepting nominations for the inaugural Minister’s Cultural Circle.

The Minister’s Cultural Circle celebrates the achievements and contributions of northerners who preserve and promote the arts, heritage and culture in the Northwest Territories. The Cultural Circle encourages awareness and appreciation of our diverse northern cultures.

 There are four categories for nominations:

·         Youth;

·         Individual;

·         Elder; and

·         Organization.

 DEADLINE FOR NOMINATIONS IS TUESDAY, AUGUST 2, 2011
