The Early childhood and School Services department is responsible for the development, implementation, review and revision of curriculum for both elementary and secondary school programs. The Minister of Education, Culture and Employment, through the Department, is responsible for setting overall standards for curriculum for the NWT. These standards are assured through continuous monitoring and evaluation, through which needs for further in-service, curriculum review, curriculum revision, or curriculum replacement are determined. The curriculum development cycle is achieved through consultation with education authorities, parents and teachers, and has a foundation in current research, practice and pedagogy. While other jurisdictions also develop curriculum and can be valuable partners, Early Childhood and School Services strives to ensure that any curriculum we produce is appropriate.
