OBJECTIVES
The Graduate Transition Program is designed to:
assist recent post-secondary graduates with finding jobs related
to their field of study.
give graduates the opportunity to apply their academic knowledge
and develop relevant workplace skills.
help employers offset the costs of hiring a new employee so they
become confident and independent workers.
DURATION
Wage subsidies are available to a maximum of 52 weeks. The
employment period must be a minimum of 6 months to ensure
graduates have sufficient time to develop skills and gain work
experience.
ELIGIBILITY
Employers:
All NWT
employers, excluding federal and GNWT departments and their
boards and agencies are eligible to apply for funding..
Graduates:
To be eligible, graduates must have been residents of the NWT
for at least 3 continuous years prior to graduating from a
post-secondary
institution.
FINANCIAL BENEFITS
A maximum of $25,000 will be available to employers to offset
salary costs of hiring recent graduates with minimal work
experience. Employers will cover the remaining salary and
mandatory costs such as CPP, EI and WCB. Salary is pro-rated at
$12.52 per hour.
APPLICATION PROCESS
Employers seeking workers must complete an application form
outlining the job description, skills to be learned, the wage
and duration of the position. Jobs will be advertised at the
Department of Education, Culture & Employment Career Centre
/Canada-NWT Service Centre and other appropriate places.
Employers are responsible for selecting the graduate.
Graduates
are invited to submit resumes to their local Education, Culture
& Employment Career Centers. Career counselling is available for
graduates who do not have a clearly defined occupational goal.
